Priyanka Gandhi goes into self isolation


Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has gone into self-isolation after her husband tested positive for COVID-19.

Posting a message through her Twitter handle, she announced, "Recently due to exposure to corona infection, I have to cancel my Assam tour. My yesterday's report has come negative but on the advice of doctors, I will be in isolation for the next few days. I apologize to all of you for this inconvenience. I pray for victory of Congress."

Priyanka Gandhi has been campaigning fervently for the last few days for the ongoing assembly polls in various states. However, this unexpected exposure to COVID infection has put a stop to her tours.


ECI makes important decisions on Nandigram Incident


The Election Commission of India met today to discuss reports submitted by Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal and the joint report submitted by Special General Observer Ajay Nayak and Special Police Observer Vivek Dube on the incident at Nandigram leading to injury to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 10th March 2021.

After perusing the reports, the Commission decided the following:

  1. Vivek Sahay IPS, Director Security shall be removed from the post of the Director Security and be placed under suspension immediately. The charges must be framed against him within a week for grossly failing in the discharge of his primary duty as Director Security to protect the Z+ protectee.
  2. Chief Secretary, in consultation with DGP, is authorised to post suitable Director Security immediately following the extant procedure. Posting order may be communicated to the Commission latest by 1300 hours on 15th March 2021.
  3. A Committee of Chief Secretary and DGP shall identify within the next three days the other proximate security personnel below Director Security, who failed in their duties to prevent the incident and protect the Z+ protectee VIP and take suitable action for their failure under intimation to the Commission by 1700 hours on 17th March 2021.
  4. Ms Smita Pandey IAS: 2005 be posted immediately as DM and DEO, Purba Medinipur in place of Mr Vibhu Goel IAS who shall be transferred to a non-election post.
  5. Mr Pravin Prakash, IPS, SP Purba Medinipur shall also be placed under suspension immediately and charges shall be framed against him for a major failure of bandobast.
  6. Mr Sunil Kumar Yadav, IPS:2009 be posted immediately as SP Purba Medinipur in place of Mr Pravin Prakash, IPS.
  7. Chief Secretary shall ensure that the investigation of Nandigram PS Case number 97/21 dated 11-03-2021 is completed and consequential action is  taken as per law in the next 15 days. A report in this regard shall be sent to the Commission by 31st march 2021.

The Commission further directed that since the security of star campaigners further becomes far more sensitive during the election period because of additional criticality due to possible proximity with large crowds and sensational impact of any such incidence on law and order across state, established SoPs, including advance detailed programme, necessary permissions to hold rallies or road shows, deployment, use of bulletproof vehicle, if required as per security category of protectee, deployment on the pre-decided route(s), observance of provisions of The Motor Vehicle Act, etc should be followed scrupulously. Any deviation from approved programme should only be permitted after necessary approval(s).

With respect to the above, the Commission also decided to issue Instructions separately to the CEOs of all poll bound states/UTs to bring it to the notice of all Political Parties/ candidates, for strict compliance of the security of the star campaigners as per the category of protection and local threat assessment in accordance with extant rules /guidelines / SoPs.

In addition, the Election Commission of India has also appointed Former DGP Intelligence Punjab, Anil Kumar Sharma (Retd. IPS 1984 Punjab Cadre) as Special Police Observer for the General Elections to Legislative Assembly of West Bengal. As Special Police Observer, A K Sharma would be the second Special Police Observer, in addition to Vivek Dube, to observe the conduct of elections in West Bengal.

AIADMK announces final list of candidates

AIADMK today announced the second list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. With this fresh list, 174 seats have been covered.

As many as 27 of the existing cabinet ministers have been given the chance to contest again. Also, AIADMK has finalised the constituency names with allies PMK and BJP. PMK is contesting 23 seats and BJP from 20 seats.

AIADMK had announced six candidates in the earlier list. The earlier list included the names of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

Sasikala quits public life


Sasikala Natarajan, the chief aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late J Jayalalithaa, has announced that she is quitting public life.

Announcing the same in a statement, she has asked the AIADMK cadre to stand united and ensure that DMK is defeated in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Sasikala Natarajan was recently released from prison after serving a sentence of 4 years.


Sasikala Natarajan: Health Status


Sasikala Natarakan, chief aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late J Jayalalithaa,  is admitted to government Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru with cough and fever.

The 63-year-old, who was admitted yesterday, has comorbidities of Hypertension Diabetes and hypothyroidism. 

On arrival to hospital oxygen saturation at room air was 79 per cent and febrile. She was stable with supportive measures and antibiotics and oxygen. She will be further evaluated and monitored. Investigation reports are awaited.

Sashikala suffered breathlessness and was rushed to hospital from jail. She is to be released on January 27th after her 4-year term on disproportionate assets case.


JDU gets new president

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) President Nitish Kumar decided to relinquish the post of party president and proposed the name of RCP Singh to take the position.

The proposal was unanimously accepted by the National Council of the party, following which Mr Singh was elected as the new party chief.

The decision was taken at the National Executive Council Meeting of the party.

AAP to contest in UP elections

Aam Aadmi Party has announced that they would be contesting the 2022 Uttar Pradesh general elections. 

Announcing it today, Party Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said UP needs a change and AAP will be the party which will provide that. 



Hyderabad: GHMC polls commence

Voting has started for the much anticipated Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.


1) 150 Wards going to polls.

2) Voting process underway in 9,235 polling stations.

3) There are 38,56,770 male voters.

4) There are 35,46,847 female votes.

5) There are 669 voters in the Others category.

6) In total, there are 74,04,286 voters.

Key personalities including Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy and Telangana IT KTR have cast their vote.
