Ex-IAS officer to join Congress in Tamil Nadu

An ex-IAS officer from the Karnataka cadre, Sashikanth Senthil, who resigned from his position last year will be joining Congress tomorrow.

He will join the party in Chennai in the presence of AICC in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Goa, Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Announcing the decision through a tweet message, Mr Senthil said, "I would like to inform all that I have decided to join the Congress party in my effort to continue the fight. I have been an activist trying to be a voice for the less privileged all through my life, wherever I was and would continue the same until my last breath."

Special Committee formed to assist Congress President

Congress President Sonia Gandhi today formed a special committee to assist her in party matters. 

The committee includes AK Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Singh Surjewala. 

Ms Gandhi has also reconstituted the working committee of the Party, with appointment of new members and relieving several senior leaders. 

The AICC Central Election Authority has also been reconstituted by the Congress President.

Congress parliament strategy meet to be held today

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will today come face to face with some of the leaders who wrote a letter calling for major leadership changes in the party, during a crucial parliament strategy meeting. 

This is the first meeting of Congress leaders after the last Congress Working Committee session, which was clouded by talks regarding the timing and intent of the letter. 

Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, who were among the 23 leaders who signed the letter will be a part of the meeting.

Congress launches nationwide campaign against decision of Centre to conduct NEET, JEE

The Congress today launched a nationwide campaign against the decision of the Centre to conduct NEET and JEE main exams in September.

The members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) took to the streets to protest against the decision of the government.

 

Expressing his support for the protestors, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal tweeted, "Visited NSUI protest in Shasthri Bhavan to show my solidarity. The BJP govt must listen to the voice of students who are concerned about safety & transportation during Covid. The Govt must listen to them before making a decision on JEE and NEET exams."

Sonia Gandhi forms panel to formulate stand of Congress on key ordinances

Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday (26th August) formed a five-member panel to formulate the stance of the party on key ordinances promulgated by the central government.

Party general secretary in charge of the organisation, KC Venugopal issued a press release stating that P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Digvijaya Singh, Amar Singh and Gaurav Gogoi are the five members who constitute the panel.

Mr Ramesh will be the convener of the committee.

Sonia Gandhi to remain as Interim President of Congress for now, new chief to elected in 6 months

Sonia Gandhi will remain as the interim President of Congress party for now and the new chief will be elected within the next 6 months, according to reports.

The Congress Working Committee is stated to have arrived at this decision after a 7-hour long meeting. An intense discussion is reported to have occurred regarding a letter written by 23 members of the party, who are stated to have sought "changes to the leadership." 

Ms Gandhi reportedly offered to step down from the post but was asked to continue by former Prime Minister and party colleague Manmohan Singh.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is said to have questioned the timing of the letter, when the party was undergoing a crisis in some states and considering the health condition of Ms Gandhi.

Top Kashmiri leaders issue joint statement; aim at restoration of Article 370, J&K Statehood

Top Kashmiri leaders, who signed the Gupkar declaration last year, have stated that they will fight for the restoration of Article 370 and 35A, the constitution of J&K and its statehood. 

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Congress state president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, CPI (M) general secretary M Y Tarigami, Peoples Conference chairman, Sajad Gani Lone and vice president Awami National Conference Muzuffar Shah have said so in a joint statement issued today.

"We all reiterate that we are bound, wholly, by the contents of the Gupkar declaration and will unwaveringly adhere to it. We are committed to strive for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, the Constitution of J&K and the restoration of the State and any division of the State is unacceptable to us. We unanimously reiterate that there can be nothing about us without us," the joint statement said.
